We started Iowa Custom Murphy Beds as a solution to the age old dilemma of how to have a guest bedroom and home office in a small third bedroom.

 

We searched local businesses and online for a Murphy bed to fit our needs. Locally, we found one store that could order a ready-made Murphy bed. Online we found many wallbed manufactures, but faced the difficulty of installing a bed that came in pieces with only written instructions and most of the beds were made of particle board, not solid wood. In either situation we had no way of seeing the quality of the product or how it worked before purchasing. We were not happy with any of these options.

 

So, we decided to build our own Murphy bed. We spoke with several local woodworkers and steelworkers about building a Murphy bed and home office unit exactly as we wanted. After months of research and different frame designs, we were delighted to find the perfect Amish woodworker that used solid wood, constructed his own cabinet doors, and made beautiful wood furniture and a steelworker that helped us improve our frame design.
